Retiring to Indonesia: Retirement KITAS, Silver Hair and Second Home visas compared
Updated 30 October 2026 · 5 min read · Facts as of October 2026
The Retirement KITAS (E33F) is for retirees aged 55 and over with proof of pension or income, a lease and a local sponsor, renewed every year. The Silver Hair Visa (E33E) is a five-year option for older retirees with a qualifying deposit. The Second Home Visa (E33) is open to anyone placing a qualifying deposit in a state bank or buying property, for five or ten years.
Retirement KITAS (E33F)
The most established route. You must be 55 or over, show proof of a pension or other income, hold a lease on accommodation in Indonesia and have a local sponsor. The permit renews annually, and after enough consecutive years you may become eligible for a KITAP. Government fees for the KITAS are IDR 2,000,000 for one year as of October 2026.
Silver Hair Visa (E33E)
A five-year permit for older retirees who place a qualifying deposit, removing the yearly renewal. The site currently lists the minimum age as 60; we confirm the current threshold against the official immigration page before you apply, as these rules are updated from time to time.
Second Home Visa (E33)
Not limited to retirees. Anyone who places a qualifying deposit in an Indonesian state bank or buys property can obtain five or ten years of residence. It suits people who want a long stay without an employer or a yearly renewal.
Which one?
- Modest budget, happy to renew yearly: Retirement KITAS.
- Funds available for a deposit, want five years without renewals: Silver Hair.
- Under retirement age, or planning to buy property: Second Home.
